It is somewhat common knowledge among the Fate fandom (and the larger Nasuverse fandom) that Fate/stay night originally had several routes, each focusing on a different heroine. The final product only has three (one for Saber, one for Rin and one for Sakura), but Nasu considered several other routes for Medusa, Medea, and even a new Servant named Tachie, who occupied the Shielder class. However, the most sought-after route is also the one that got farthest in the planning stages: the Illya route.
